|i love bread and butter pudding and have found lots of ways to give it a different taste, But what about when we are away in the Bambi. no problem
look in home bakeing section of your lcal supermarket for a packet of Greens egg custard mix. this is so easy to use you simply add to one pint of cold milk, stir as it comes to the boil and then high simmer (just under the boil) for one minute and its ready to have fun with
cut some thick slices from a currat loaf into cubes and put into a dish , pour the hot egg custard mix over it and leave to cool. most times there is enough to make two puddings with in a small caserole dish so for the secound one just cut crusts from 3 slices of white bread, spead with butter and jam, roll up like a swiss roll and cut into slices ( about four to one roll.) put into the dish and add the egg custard and leave to cool.
Or line a caserol dish with very lightly buttered slices of bread, butter side out. add some tinned fruit or fresh stewed fruit (apple and dried fruit is deliciouse) pour egg custard mix into the dish to top of bread
Leave to cool. once cooled you can decorate with squirty cream.
you only use one saucepan for this so no loads of washing up.
Of course you can buy some ready made pastry cases and make small egg custard pies.or better still buy a large ready made pastry case as well as there is plenty to do both six small and one large pie. These are great for that mid day break.
I hope that you will have a go at these sugestions and then try our your own ideas and hopefully pass them on.
